Week 28· by Bill

Review for week 28 - by Bill

Tasted by Bill, Ed, John, Rich, Ssezi.

In week 28 we were off to ["The Black Olive"](http://www.black-olive.com) in Tewksbury MA to take advantage of their Tuesday night meal deal: dinner for two and a bottle of wine for $30! We weren't so bold as to take pictures in the restaurant, so we'll be making due with some stock footage borrowed from the restaurants website. Fear not, John's exquisite wine bottle photography will return again next week!

2003 Gini — Chianti Italy

Original heading: “2003 Gini - Chianti Italy

This Chianti was fine. Not great, fine. The menu lists it at $19, which we figured translated to a $6 or $7 bottle and we hit this one on the nose. For the shelf price this is a fair buy. Subtle cherry, good color, not much of a finish but an easy drinker that will go with lots of meals. It's not going to blow your socks off, but we've had much worse Chianti's for much more money. Bring it to a party - most people will find it agreeable.

2002 Masciarelli — Montepulciano Italy

Original heading: “2002 Masciarelli - Montepulciano Italy

$24 in the restaurant, $6.99 off the shelf. Our reviews assumed a $10-$12 price tag, and may have suffered a bit from that. Pleasant but not distinctive. Spicier than the Gini, but you're not going to find a lot of depth of flavor with this one. Another mild, easy drinker. No tats, no piercings as Ssezi would say.

Wine #3

Chicken Marsala with Ziti and Extra Marsala Sauce — $14.95

Original heading: “Chicken Marsala with Ziti and Extra Marsala Sauce - $14.95

Lacked the strength of flavor I seek in a Chicken Marsala, even after requesting extra sauce. A pleasant enough meal but I'd probably opt for one of the other entrees next time around.

Wine #4

Lasagna with side of Meatball — $11.95.

Original heading: “Lasagna with side of Meatball - $11.95.

Huge. "No human way I could eat the whole thing." If you like big portions this is a good idea. John found the lasagna to be too heavy on pasta and lacking a bit on the cheese and meat department. Even so, John enjoyed it quite a bit and would purchase again.

Lamb Kabob with Grilled Vegetables and Garlic Mashed Potatoes — $16.95.

Original heading: “Lamb Kabob with Grilled Vegetables and Garlic Mashed Potatoes - $16.95.

"Excellent." Ssezi ordered it medium and it was cooked appropriately. A great, light summer dish.

Chicken Marsala with Ziti, minus the shrooms — $14.95.

Original heading: “Chicken Marsala with Ziti, minus the shrooms - $14.95.

Rich quite enjoyed the marsala sauce but didn't feel there was enough of it. Good sized portions and tasty. Rich would order with extra sauce next time around but would buy again.

Chicken Skewers — $13.95.

Nicely prepared, subtle flavors and a light dish. This meal was just what Ed was looking for and it delivered.

2003 Villa Trasqua — Chianti Classico Italy

Original heading: “2003 Villa Trasqua - Chianti Classico Italy

Another Chianti, this one a bit higher on the price scale. $32 in the restaurant, $21.99 off the shelf - A reasonable restaurant markup in the grand scheme. This one gave a bit more punch and depth of flavor than the previous offerings, with some spice and cherry. While it was universally thought to be the more interesting of the wines we sampled; I found it a little too bitter for my tastes.

Wine #10

Coffee, Decaf

Original heading: “Coffee, Decaf -

Ed was downright tickled with the presentation of this coffee: A spoon and a white mug with plenty of cream and even some sugar. (oh my! listening to this audio I think perhaps we shouldn't have let Ed out of the parking lot...) Could anyone ask for a better way to bring the dinner to a close? Ed couldn't!
