Review for Tuesday - 12/06/2005
Seven bottles dropped this week, despite one of our anchors, Steve, leaving us for a quick dalliance in Hawaii. By and large it seemed that this crop of wines fell short of expectations, but hopefully the reviews do not!
The wines (9)
2004 Chateau Lamothe — Bordeaux
Original heading: “2004 Chateau Lamothe - Bordeaux”
A very light and airy wine - crisp but not a real strong flavor. Perhaps a good wine for a nice summer day, but nothing that blew us away. At $9.99, the wine was generally considered a 'buy' by the white wine drinkers in the group.

2003 Korbel Natural — Sparkling Wine
Original heading: “2003 Korbel Natural - Sparkling Wine”
A drinkable sparkling wine but it largely failed to impress - striking many of us as simply ordinary. Truly enjoyed by Ed for a smooth champagne without a sharp finish.

2001 Tomaiolo Riserva — Chianti
Original heading: “2001 Tomaiolo Riserva - Chianti”
Evidently we didn't drink this last week after all, cuz here it is. However the wait didn't pay off - this Chianti was bland with very little spices and only a faint cherry scent and flavor to help distinguish it. In the end it was as enjoyable as cough syrup, so if you're into vick's 44 - go nuts.

2003 Luis Felipe Edwards — Cabernet Sauvignon
Original heading: “2003 Luis Felipe Edwards - Cabernet Sauvignon”
For $9, the consensus was 'better than the Chianti'... unfortunately there was a lot of room to climb from there and this one just barely managed to claw its way to mediocrity.

2003 Francis Coppola — Claret Cabernet Sauvignon
Original heading: “2003 Francis Coppola - Claret Cabernet Sauvignon”
A bit of an anticeptic berry smell. Non complex and smooth for those who liked it. Generally accepted to be a superior Cabernet Sauvignon to the aforementioned Luis Felipe of the same year. (for what that's worth)

2004 Zarafa — Pinotage
Original heading: “2004 Zarafa - Pinotage”
Once again the pinotage drinkers would drink and buy, but not quite as enthusiastically as last weeks Southern Right. ...and a brontosaurus isn't a mammal.

2005 Georges Dubeuf — Beaujolais-Villages Nouveau
Original heading: “2005 Georges Dubeuf - Beaujolais-Villages Nouveau”
The stamina was with us tonight and we hit lucky number 7. Lucky number 7, however, wasn't terribly popular. Rich commented that it accomplished it's goals: not intended to be complex - just smooth and tasty. Smooth or not, tasty or not, it didn't endear itself to most of us.
Audio recording
2005 Farmland of Wakefield — Strawberry Shortcake
Original heading: “2005 Farmland of Wakefield - Strawberry Shortcake”
Great whipped cream, fresh strawberrys, tender cake. All in all a very pleasant implementation of an old classic. Highly recommended.

Wine #9
2.00 / 2.003 buy
National Treasure
Light and airy with a decent finish - National Treasure was deamed enjoyable. Exceeding expectations (which admittedly were not terribly high), the movie was paced well and had a good element of fun where it lacked in realism.
