Review for Tuesday - 11/29/2005
This week saw six new reds - only one of which really stood out. That standout was our first of the evening, the 2004 Panarroz Jumilla which can be had for as little as $6. The wines are listed below in the order that we drank them - Enjoy! We did.

Wine #1$10.00

2004 Panarroz — Jumilla
Original heading: “2004 Panarroz - Jumilla”
The group was in agreement on the Panarroz, a spanish blend. For under $10 a better wine would be hard to find. Fine to sip by itself but better with a burger or any meat. Rich noted that if the same wine were from a popular region of France or California it would easily demand $20 or more.

Wine #2$12.99
1.17 / 2.002 buy
2004 Southern Right — Pinotage
Original heading: “2004 Southern Right - Pinotage”
A tart, earthy wine, this South African Pinotage smelled downright aweful upon opening... which was a bit of a turn-off to many of us. Fortunately it toned down after breathing a few minutes but still was only truly enjoyed by Rich and Ssezi... and emphatically hated by Chris. For $12.99 the general consensus was luke warm. If you do enjoy Pinotage you will likely enjoy this one.

Wine #3
1.17 / 2.003 buy
2001 Casa Lapostolle — Merlot
Original heading: “2001 Casa Lapostolle - Merlot”
Not much of a sipping wine, this Chilean merlot is best enjoyed with food to help take off some of the bitter edge. Not emphatically endorsed by anyone at the table, however those who liked it enjoyed a smooth finish.

Wine #4
0.33 / 2.00
2003 Cleavage Creek — Cabernet Sauvignon
Original heading: “2003 Cleavage Creek - Cabernet Sauvignon”
Going on to bottle #4 in a relatively short period of time, we tend to get a little more lenient (yes - we swallow). However, the general consensus was spelled out by Ssezi; 'Looks better than it tastes.' Not an outright offensive flavor, but certainly nothing special here - if you make the mistake of purchasing it, leave it bottled on your mantle.

Wine #5
0.80 / 2.00
2001 Praesidium — Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
Original heading: “2001 Praesidium - Montepulciano d'Abruzzo”
Bitter, tangy flavor that lingers. Not great, not really even good. This sample had a suspect cork however, and John who has tasted it before had a more enjoyable experience the last time around. We mistakenly finished the bottle before everyone had a glass, though, so maybe we liked it more than we thought.

Either we didnt drink this wine, or we were drunk enough that we forgot to record our comments. Who's to say?
